NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Former Niagara University Purple Eagles forward Stephen Pietrobon has been granted a tryout with the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals, Niagara Athletics announced on Saturday. The Jackals are the tertiary affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.
Pietrobon appeared in 130 games for the Purple Eagles throughout his career, scoring 19 goals and 25 assists in that span. Praised in particular for his strong two-way play, the Toronto native was an assistant captain in his final season and was a key contributor in Niagara’s improbable postseason upset of RIT.
If Pietrobon’s effort is successful, he will become the third graduating Purple Eagle to join the East Cost Hockey League this year. Teammates T.J. Sarcona and Vinny Muto were signed by the Rapid City Rush last month.
