Hi my name is Alison Chodak and I will be talking about the top 5 movies of 2009.
Yes, in my opinion.
1.) “The Hangover”
“The Hangover” is probably one of the funniest movies to this day. It was written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. It was directed by Todd Phillips. The three leading actors (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zack Galifianakis) make the movie comedy gold. This movie is about four guys who go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party and they end up losing the groom right before the big day. If you ever need a good laugh, watch this movie. It will instantly cheer you up and again one of the funniest movies out there.
2.) “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”
This is the sixth movie in the franchise and this was when the craze for Harry Potter was huge. Harry Potter is still a major phenomenon, but this isn’t the point. Everyone knows who Harry Potter is which is why this movie is influential to this day. This specific film was directed by David Yates who would go on to direct the last two films. Harry is living his 6th year in Hogwarts trying to find out more about his nemesis Lord Voldemort. If you’re interested in watching this movie, start from the beginning. See how Harry and his friends grow up and live in Hogwarts.
3.) “The Blindside”
“The Blindside” is a dramatic and true story. This beautifully composed film is about a boy from a rough upbringing, who gets adopted into a family and is incredible at football. Sandra Bullock is praised for her role in this movie and she plays the mother who gives this boy a new life. Many people can’t do that, this is why this film is so lighthearted. If you want to watch a movie with a happy-ending, watch “The Blindside.”
4.) “Coraline”
“Coraline” is one of the most talked about movies to this day especially near Halloween. Many teenagers are still freaked out while watching this film because they watched it while they were children. This movie was directed by Henry Selick who is known for directing “James and the Giant Peach,” which means it was made out of stop-motion animation. This movie is still watched every Halloween by many people. The movie was based on the 2002 novel written by Neil Gaiman. According to Julia Gauthier, a student at Niagara University, there is a scene with spiders and it freaked her out and even caused her current phobia of spiders. This movie is fun and creepy and perfect for a night in October.
5.) “Avatar”
“Avatar” was the biggest movie until “Avengers: Endgame” beat it out of the box office this past year. The CGI was incredible that this was one of the reasons that there are many fans. The romance in the story is also thrown in there. The film even took ten years to make. Also, Julia Gauthier is a fan of the CGI and dystopian universe. Disney is now making a lot of money out of “Avatar.” James Cameron actually got the idea of “Avatar” from Disney’s “Pocahontas.” “Avatar” is just a wonderful movie especially if you want to be taken away to another world.
