Patrick Beilein has resigned as head coach of the Men’s Basketball Team before embarking on what would have been his first season at the helm at NU. Greg Paulus has been chosen to serve as the interim coach of the Men’s Basketball team moving forward.
In a statement issued by Beilein, he announced his resignation from the position citing personal issues as the driving factor.
“It is with heavy regret that I must inform the entire Purple Eagle nation that effective today I have resigned my position as head men’s basketball coach at Niagara University,” Beilein said. “It has been a lifelong dream of mine to become a Division-I head basketball coach, but unfortunately, that dream must be put on hold. Personal reasons I can no longer take lightly have led me to step away from my dream job. Going forward, I must give singular focus to dealing with these issues, so that I can become the man that I strive to be.”
Greg Paulus has been named the interim head coach in light of Beilein’s resignation. Before coming to NU, he had experience as an assistant coach at Ohio State University, University of Louisville, and George Washington University. During his playing career, he was a three-year starter and two-time captain under coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University.
