
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Over the past few months, some Purple Eagles have been shattering records across campus. Program records in sports like Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Swimming & Diving, and Women’s Track & Field have been dropping like flies. Here’s some of the record-breaking performances that have happened in that time span.
Rachel MacCheyne, Lacrosse
MacCheyne broke the record for most points in Niagara history on Mar. 25 when she earned her 203rdcareer point in a game vs the Michigan Wolverines. She’s the second Women’s Lacrosse player to ever eclipse 200 career points in a Purple Eagles uniform. MacCheyne already has an esteemed place in the Purple Eagles record books. She owns the record for most goals in a season (60), set it in the 2017 season. She’s also the first Purple Eagle to be named to an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region Team.
Hayley Tasselmyer and Avery Sanquist, Women’s Swimming & Diving
Both Tasselmyer and Avery Sanquist have shattered program records in the MAAC Championships this past Feb. Tasselmyer broke her previously held 100 Breaststroke record with a time of 1:03.75 on her way to becoming a MAAC champion. She also broke the record for 100 Breaststorke and 100 IM during the season in different meets, with times of 2:23.75 and 1:01.21 respectively.Avery Sanquist broke three records in one swim. Sanquist broke the 1650 free record with a time of 17:19.66, while also breaking records at the 500 split (5:09.11) and the 1000 split (1-:24.43). Sanquist, a freshman, also owns the program record of 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:34:02.
Women’s Track & Field
The Women’s Track & Field team has shattered too many records to limit this category to just a select few athletes. In their Mar. 30 meet against the Monmouth Hawks, Nora Klinowski broke the school 3k record with a time of 10:31.09. She also has the third best all-time time in 5k time in program history (18:37). Elle Russell also set a new program record in the meet. She finished the 10k with a 41:41.39. Morgan Palmer set an NU record in Discuss when she finished with a distance of 42.99 meters.
