NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.- The Spring concert has officially been announced, and this year’s lucky performer is none other than Torey Lanez, the Canadian born rap artist and singer/songwriter. Originally named Daystar Peterson, Torey inherited his stage name by being known as the guy who messed around in the streets, ignoring the rules of traffic and doing as he pleased, jumping from lane to lane, leading to the moniker Torey Lanez.
His early career began when Sean Kingston noticed the young Canadian rapper free-styling on his youtube channel. Kingston was quick to sign him to his label Time is Money Entertainment, where Lanes released the mixtapes “Swavey”, “Mr. Peterson” and “Chixtape,” all of which became fairly popular. In 2012, Lanez left Kingston’s label to become an independent artist, releasing the mixtapes “Sincerely Torey,” “Conflicts of my Soul: The 416 Story,” and “Chixtape II”. In 2014, Lanez kicked off his first tour calling it “The Lost Cause,” tour after the popular mixtape by the same name.
Since then, Lanez has been in and out of the spotlight, resurfacing every so often with a handful of new mixtapes, the most recent of which include “Love Me Now?” and “Memories Don’t Die.” He is also rumored to be releasing his upcoming latin project “El Agua,” which will be released in the very near future.
When asked about his signature style, Lanez refers to it as “swavey,” a term he uses to describe both his lifestyle and his music. The concert will be held at The Rapids Theatre on April 27, 2019. Doors open at 8 p.m.
