Tips for living a healthier lifestlye

By David Wojtkowski

Living a healthy lifestyle can be an incredibly difficult task in modern society.  It just seems like everything is stacked against you at times. Here are a few tips to help set you on the path to living a healthier life.

START OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

Before you make all these changes you need to make sure you’re making the right choices.  With so many different opinions out there and many just trying to sell you some product one has to be careful as to what advice to listen to.  My advice is to find somebody you trust in the field of fitness and listen to them, even talk to a personal trainer if you need to. This should be the first step because inaccurate information can lead to you making no progress at all and could potentially be dangerous if they teach improper form.

START OFF SMALL

When you’re making lifestyle changes to live a healthier lifestyle it’s better to start off with small changes and then gradually making bigger and bigger ones as the months pass.  If you start tomorrow going to the gym for two hours everyday and drastically changing your diet you’ll probably last about a week before burning out. It is better to make small changes like by doing quicker, easier workouts at first and making small shifts in your diet like not eating that piece of chocolate cake.  This will allow you to settle into a new lifestyle and stick with it for the long haul.

DON’T SET GOALS

This is a bit of a controversial tip because others will tell you to set goals so you can have milestones and opportunities to pat yourself on the back when you reach them.  In order to truly live a healthier life I advise against setting any specific goals for yourself.  In my experience if you set a goal, say lose ten pounds, and achieve it, you’re going to feel less motivated to keep with your training as you were when working to reach that goal and can easily slip back into your old, unhealthy habits.  If you don’t have any goals and are just living a trying to live better, you won’t see it as a fad or a phase or anything like that, rather as your new way of life. And I believe that is the best way to live a healthier life.
