NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.-Niagara University is proud of the Vincentian values that it was founded upon. As a result, volunteer work is highly encouraged. Some clubs and majors on campus require students and members to obtain a certain amount of volunteer work hours. Some students put off doing this volunteer work, while others simply do not know how to go about finding volunteer opportunities. Niagara’s Levesque Institute webpage offers a variety of different opportunities. Here are ten volunteer opportunities for anyone on campus:
- Renovate a veteran’s house.
For National Day of Service and Remembrance a veteran’s home in the community will be renovated. The event will take place on Oct. 4. The renovations will include landscaping, painting and minor repairs. If interested, contact Brittany DePietro at bdepietro.@niagara.edu.
- Assist at the Aquarium of Niagara.
The Aquarium of Niagara is looking for volunteers in various departments. Students can get in their volunteer hours while spending time with fish and other aquatic life. To get more information, contact Sarah Courtney at scourtney@aquariumofniagara.org.
- Help assist senior citizens.
At Canopy of Neighbors, the mission is to keep seniors living in their own homes for as long as possible. Volunteers will help seniors with transportation as well as various repairs and services in their homes. For more information, email Wendy Fredricks at wendy@canopyofneighbors.org.
- Volunteer with Community Missions.
Community Missions of Niagara Frontier helps assist people in need. They are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of different programs and events. To volunteer with this organization, contact Niagara’s IMPACT at impact@niagara.edu.
- Dance away with Danceability Inc.
Danceability Inc. is looking for volunteers to work with children and adults with special needs. No dance experience is required. To volunteer with Danceability Inc. email danceabilityWNY@gmail.com.
- Work with horses at Equi-star
Equi-star is looking for volunteers to handle horses or lead the horses during classes. Email Mercedes Rees at mercedees.rees@gmail.com to volunteer.
- Fight poverty with Global African Village
With a focus to help the Bagishu people of eastern Uganda, the Global African Village is looking for volunteers. Volunteers will help organize fundraisers and talks, as well as research different grants. - Heart, Love and Soul

- Help feed the homeless with Hearts for the Homeless
Join the mobile crew that feeds impoverished and homeless individuals and families at the Buffalo & Erie County Library. To volunteer, contact Donna Blarr at hearts4@roadrunner.com.
- Meals on Wheels
