Top 5 places to eat near NU

If you aren’t a local student, it may be hard for you to figure out the best places to eat. Of course, it is easy to find chain food restaurants, but it is much more difficult to find small business or rare restaurants, especially coming to an unfamiliar area. This list is composed of unique restaurants in the area surrounding Niagara University, that are top choices amongst locals. 

1. The Spicey Pickle

The Spicey Pickle is a small locally owned mexican restaurant located in Lewiston. The food is always fresh, and they have a variety of options including burritos, fajitas, nachos, tacos and soups. They also have daily specials. This is a great place to stop in quick and grab a bite to eat.

2. The Village Bake Shop

The Village Bake Shop has just about any bakery good you could want. You can stop in for breakfast and get eggs, a breakfast sandwich or a sweet treat. They have excellent pies and cakes. Most importantly, the owner is an NU alum!

3. Cal’s Grinders

This is a fairly new sub shop in Lewiston, located just down the street from the well known Orange Cat Coffee shop. They offer classic “Grinders,” warm or cold subs, as well as house specials, salads, build your owns and party trays. This is a small locally owned restaurant that has quaint indoor seating and also offer’s to-go orders.

4. China Pearl

If you’re craving Chinese, this is the place to go. This restaurant is great if you want to pick up some Chinese food quickly. It is best to call ahead and order so there is less of await upon arrival. Personally, this is the best chinese place I have tried since being at NU!

5. Apple Granny

Apple Granny is a delicious restaurant to grab lunch or dinner at. Their menu has a variety of items including seafood, salads, soups, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. This restaurant has whatever you may be craving!

These are just a few of the many diverse restaurants in Lewiston that are a short drive from NU’s campus. Each of these restaurants has been recommended by locals and are some of the hidden gems in this tiny town that are open year round and ready to serve you whenever you stop in!
