Aside from the big game, arguably the best part of the Super Bowl is watching the advertisements during the commercial breaks. For Super Bowl 2018, NBC received roughly $5 million per 30 second ad. This year had several notable advertisements, but here are the top five:
- Jeep Jurassic Park
Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the original Jurassic Park movie, revisited his role only this time trying to escape from a Tyrannosaurus Rex while riding in his jeep. He is able to conquer the T-Rex with the help of his Jeep Wrangler. Goldblum is appearing in the new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom coming out later this year.
- M&M turns human
To M&M’s are walking through the streets just as, Danny Devito turns into the human form of an M&M for this entertaining ad, hilariously asking other humans, “Do you want to eat me?”. He goes onto express his joy for being human, but after this, he gets slammed by a bus and is snapped back into reality.
- Olympian Lindsey Vonn
With the Olympics just around the corner from the Super Bowl, there were several promotions encouraging viewers to tune in to the Olympics the following week. Lindsey Vonn appeared in this ad, showing her inspiring journey from a young age conquering the world of skiing. She faces a brutal injury, tumbling down a mountain but is able to overcome this. She goes through rehab, works hard, and gets herself back up to the top, motivating viewers and showing them why they should tune in.
- Doritos and Mountain Dew
For this ad, Doritos and Mountain Dew team up to bring us fire and ice. The entertaining commercial features Peter Dinklage rapping Busta Rhymes with fire surrounding him, and Morgan Freeman singing Missy Elliot with ice all around. Dinklage’s commercial represents Doritos Blaze and Freeman’s Mountain Dew Ice with the hashtags #spitfire and #icecold appearing respectively for each.
1. Amazon’s Alexa loses her voice
This commercial includes several pop culture stars, including Cardi B, Rebel Wilson, and Gordon Ramsey. It is groundbreaking news that Alexa, a personal assistant device has lost her voice and can’t help users. Various celebrities become the voice of Alexa, with Gordon Ramsey screaming about grilled cheese, and Cardi B promoting her song Bodak Yellow.
