Ghost Hunters Visit NU

Michaela McGrath

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.– Paranormal agents from Rome Investigators of the Paranormal (RIP) visited NU Wednesday Oct. 25 in Dunleavy Hall to talk about their encounters with the unknown. Peter Leonard and Dr. David Desprospero, who are cousins and co-founders of RIP, became interested in the paranormal after a childhood full of spooky experiences.

“We grew up in a family homestead that had paranormal activity like you couldn’t believe,” said Desprospero. “It was a very traumatic experience for us growing up.”

He went on to say that as adults, their suspicions about their childhood were confirmed by their family.

“The house ended up getting sold off in the early 2000s,” he said. “It changed hands nine times in 18 months after it got sold.”

RIP formed in 2001. Leonard and Desprospero (also known as “The Paranormal Cousins”), along with their team, investigate over 50 homes per year of people who report experiencing unusual activity. They also give lectures and attend conventions across the Northeast.

The Paranormal Cousins shared stories with NU students about their visits to various homes and buildings in Central New York. They have investigated places like the Camroden Church in Floyd, NY, the Rutgers Mansion in Utica, NY, and locations in Woodgate, NY, Salem, MA, Gettysburg, PA, among many others.

Leonard and Desprospero talked about their experiences at the Hulbert House in Boonville, NY.

“There were two investigators that we sent to the first floor because in the banquet room in the back of the property, there is a story about a little girl who’s trapped and can’t leave,” said Desprospero. “Nobody knows why she can’t leave. The theory is that she’s being held there by another spirit.”

They then played an audio clip from the investigation that apparently features the voice of a little girl saying, “Help me.”

Leonard said a year later, they returned to the house.

“Just as I got to the bottom of the stairs, where you can hear what was happening on the third floor,” began Leonard, “I heard as clear as day and I will never forget this, a little girl’s voice saying ‘I can see the light.’”

Leonard and Desprospero believe the little girl might have been freed from another spirit during their investigation.

After the presentation, the paranormal agents took a group of students on a ghost hunt around campus.
