Summer in the 716

Three of the most exciting things to look forward to this summer

By Greg Jubert

NIAGARA UNIV. N.Y.- While the thermostat may beg to differ, summer is coming sooner than later, and that means in Buffalo plenty of opportunities and activities people of all ages can enjoy. Here are just some of the fun that is coming as spring turns into summer.

  1. Darien Lake

Opening for the season on May 6, Darien Lake has plenty to celebrate over the coming months. The first roller coaster to feature five inversions, Viper, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a special ceremony in June. The Darien Lake Amphitheater will also be in its 25th year of operation, featuring concerts ranging from Chance the Rapper to Zac Brown Band to John Mayer.

  1. Catch a game

With the season now about a month underway, the Buffalo Bisons continue their play downtown at Coca-Cola Park throughout the summer. As the team celebrates 30 seasons of operation in Buffalo, there are plenty of promotional events throughout the summer, with firework displays every Friday night. A full list of promotions can be found at bisons.com.

  1. Watkins Glen

So maybe it is not necessarily in Buffalo, but Watkins Glen is not only home to a beautiful state park, but also a racetrack in Watkins Glen International. The road course, which means drivers have to make both left and right turns, is home to an IndyCar race every July and two NASCAR races in mid-August.
