Cinematic season in Hollywood

A look at some of the blockbuster films coming this summer

As summer is just around the corner, so is the blockbuster season at the theaters, as many of the major film studios release some of the most eye-grabbing films of the year. Last year, we were treated in the summer to films such as “Captain America: Civil War,” “Finding Dory” and “Deadpool.” Similar to last summer, this summer has plenty of movies that are sure to be popular among audiences and critics alike. Below are some films to watch out for in the coming months.

  1. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (May 5)

Coming off the success of the 2014 hit, this sequel features all of the original cast, including Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Much of the film’s plot is reportedly tied to Peter Quill (Pratt) learning more about his origins and his father (played by Kurt Russell).

  1. “The Mummy” (June 9)

As if there were not enough reboots or remakes of film in Hollywood, Universal decided to do a remake of the franchise that made Brendan Frasier famous at the beginning of the century. The new film will feature actors such as Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Courtney B. Vance, who is coming off his Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal of Johnnie Cochran in the FX series “The People vs. O.J. Simpson.”

  1. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (July 7)

Just two films into Andrew Garfield’s tenure as the lead and Marvel has already decided to switch things up and try it again with Tom Holland in the leading role. The film will tie into “The Avengers” series, and will feature Robert Downey Jr. acting as a mentor to Holland’s Peter Parker.
