NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.- A 13-8 victory over the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday punched the Niagara Purple Eagles’ ticket to a third consecutive appearance in the MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Rachel MacCheyne turned in the finest performance of her career, scoring a personal record seven points (5G+2A). Jill Ford scored three goals while Caroline Crump and Grace Hunt each had two goals and an assist. Alexandra Higgins was stellar on defense, causing the Hawks to make five turnovers.
In goal, Andrea Francisco evened her record at 7-7, making nine saves total. The Camillus, New York put up 17 scoreless minutes before the Hawks finally got on the board.
The Purple Eagles will close out the regular season on Wednesday vs. Marist. It will be the team’s annual Pink Game to support breast cancer research. Fans can purchase t-shirts this week in lower level Gallagher Center or at the game itself for $15. A Niagara win will give them home field advantage in round one.
