Niagara hosts “Meet the Professionals” night
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The third floor of the Bisgrove academic complex was a beehive of activity as the Public Relations Student Society of Niagara hosted its second annual “Meet the Professionals” event on Thursday, April 6.
The event featured various public relations experts from the Western New York area, including representatives for the Seneca Niagara Casino, Boulevard Mall, and Niagara Falls State Parks. Companies like Evergreen Health and the Niagara Falls City School District were also at the event, showing the true breadth of the public relations field. Niagara University did not pass up an opportunity to show off their skills, with Michael Freedman sharing his expertise to curious students.
Niagara University students used the event to network with the members of their potential fields, while shopping for job and internship opportunities.
The event also featured journalists from various local papers, including the Niagara Gazette. The idea to bring news media into the event was pushed by the management of the Niagara Wire.
A notable guest at the event was Brook D’Angelo, who was the mastermind behind the viral sensation Totes McGoats. D’Angelo sat alongside the infamous goat mask that broke the internet in the fall of 2015. McGoats was created to help roll out Niagara Falls’ recycling program.
Students found interesting ways to break the ice. Michael Pearl, a sophomore, performed card tricks with a deck of real casino cards from the Seneca Niagara Casino. Other students chatted over cheese, fruit and cookies that made the rounds through the room.
