Dear Miss Monte
I was wondering if you could give me advice on academics. I’m bad at managing time…what are some tips you have at the top of your head to help me out?
Response:
We all can agree that college is not the easiest time in life. Rather college is probably the most stressful. Students come straight from high school where every aspect of your day is planned out for them, to college where they can pick and choose when they actually want to do something with their day. Its kind of crazy to expect students to become responsible adults overnight but I guess that’s just life. Personally, I have experienced troubles managing my time as a college student. I love watching my Netflix and and hanging out with my friends but unfortunately I had to learn the hard way that choosing what I wanted to do was only going to set me up for failure. One thing that really started to help me with my time management was keeping a To Do List and a planner. This way I could make sure that everything I needed to do was written down and I was able to check things off as I go. Just by checking things off I gained satisfaction because I was finally putting my needs first and staying on task. No, this is not always the easiest thing to do but it does help. I also started to set aside a specific time a day to do academic work. Lastly, the most important thing is reward yourself after a long week or hard day to keep yourself motivated. Doing what you love is also important but you have to put your future first in order to live a happy and productive life.
